We are pleased to present an exhibition of hand-blown glass works by Hideki Yokoyama, created in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Yokoyama studied under Shinzo Kotani, the founder of Kurashiki Glass, and has continued to deepen his practice by trusting his own sensibilities and responding directly to the material. Rather than relying on thermometers, he works by carefully gauging the day’s temperature, the condition of the furnace, and the softness of the molten glass itself. As a result, each piece retains a rich and subtle irregularity that cannot be replicated through uniform production.
Soft contours, tiny air bubbles suspended within the glass, and slight variations in thickness all contribute to its character. As the glass catches the light, its appearance shifts and changes, taking on different expressions depending on the time of day and the place in which it is displayed.
These are not objects shaped to exact measurements; rather, they possess a natural ease, as though the glass has settled into its form of its own accord. With daily use, their quiet beauty reveals itself more deeply over time.
This exhibition will feature a selection of drinking glasses, bowls, and plates, as well as flower vases and other works.
We warmly invite you to visit and enjoy the exhibition.
