石川県能美市で塗師として活動する土田和茂さんの展覧会を開催いたします。土田さんは2012年に輪島にて独立し制作を行ってきましたが、2024年1月1日に発生した能登半島地震を機に、拠点を能美市へ移しました。眺めるだけでなく、触れ、使いたくなるうつわを目指して制作される土田さんの漆器。輪島で積み重ねてきた確かな技術に支えられた塗りは、手にしたときの感触や口当たりのやわらかさに加え、洗い、拭くといった日々の所作の中にも心地よさをもたらします。使い続けることで、漆ならではの質感が少しずつ深まっていきます。かたちは素直で実用的でありながら、過度な重さを感じさせない軽やかさも備えています。漆器に馴染みのない方にも取り入れやすく、日々の食卓の中で自然と手に取られる器です。本展では、「潦（にはたづみ）」のシリーズによる台皿を中心に、定番の椀や蒔地の作品を展示いたします。潦は、艶漆を用いた真塗りの技法によるもので、刷毛目を残さず幾度も塗り重ねることで、深みのある艶と滑らかな手触りが生まれます。使い込むほどに光沢に奥行きが増し、漆の表情がゆっくりと変化していきます。どうぞご高覧くださいませ。

We are pleased to present an exhibition of works by lacquer artist Kazushige Tsuchida, who is based in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Tsuchida established his independent practice in Wajima in 2012, but following the Noto Peninsula earthquake on January 1, 2024, he relocated his base to Nomi City.
His lacquerware is created with the intention of inviting not only viewing, but also touch and use. Supported by the refined techniques he developed in Wajima, his work offers a gentle tactile quality and smoothness at the lips, while also bringing a sense of ease to everyday acts such as washing and wiping. With continued use, the unique character of lacquer gradually deepens.
The forms are straightforward and practical, yet possess a lightness that avoids any sense of heaviness. Even for those less familiar with lacquerware, the pieces can be easily incorporated into daily life, naturally finding their place at the table.
This exhibition features a selection centered on the “Niwatazumi” series of plates, along with standard bowls and maki-ji works. Niwatazumi is executed using the technique of shin-nuri, in which layers of glossy lacquer are repeatedly applied and carefully finished without leaving brush marks, resulting in a deep sheen and a smooth surface. As the pieces are used, their luster gains depth and the expression of the lacquer slowly evolves.
