唐津にて作陶される矢野直人さんの陶展を開催いたします。
アメリカで絵画を学んだ後、陶芸の道へ進み、唐津の古窯跡や古陶磁に向き合いながら、自らの仕事を深めてこられた矢野さん。絵唐津や斑唐津、黒唐津、朝鮮唐津など、唐津焼に伝わるさまざまな技法を手がけています。唐津焼の魅力は、土や釉薬の選び方、窯の中での火の当たり方によって、同じ技法であっても異なる表情が生まれることにあります。鉄絵による草花の文様、釉薬が流れ重なる景色、焼成によって現れる色の変化。矢野さんの作品には、古陶磁への深い眼差しとともに、素材や焼成と向き合う中で生まれた独自の工夫が見られます。
本展では、茶碗や酒器をはじめ、食器や花器など多彩な作品をご紹介いたします。唐津焼の豊かな技法と、矢野さんならではの仕事を、ぜひ会場にてご覧くださいませ。

We are pleased to present an exhibition of works by Naoto Yano, a ceramic artist based in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture.

After studying painting in the United States, Yano turned to ceramics and has continued to develop his practice through close study of the ancient kiln sites and historic ceramics of Karatsu. His work encompasses the many traditional styles of Karatsu ware, including E-Karatsu, Madara-Karatsu, Kuro-Karatsu, and Chōsen-Karatsu.

One of the defining charms of Karatsu ware lies in the way each piece develops its own distinctive character through the choice of clay and glaze, as well as the way the flames move through the kiln. Even within the same technique, subtle differences in these elements give rise to a remarkable variety of expressions. Floral motifs rendered in iron pigment, glazes flowing and overlapping across the surface, and colors emerging through the firing process—all reveal Yano’s deep appreciation of historic ceramics, alongside the distinctive approaches he has developed through his ongoing exploration of clay, glaze, and fire.
