和歌山県天野にて薪窯による器を制作される森岡成好さんの展覧会を開催いたします。高野山麓の自然豊かな天野に窯を築き、薪窯による焼き物に長年取り組まれてきた森岡さん。種子島で南蛮焼締に出会ったことをきっかけに、韓国や東南アジアなど各地の窯場を訪ね歩き、それぞれの土地に息づく焼き物に学びながら、自身の仕事を深めてこられました。土や釉薬となる原料の採取にはじまり、薪割り、十日間にも及ぶ窯焚きまで、制作に関わるすべての工程をご自身の手で行っています。焼締めによる力強い器に加え、釉薬を施した作品にも、土や炎と向き合う中で生まれる豊かな表情があらわれています。本展では、南の島の土を用いた南蛮焼締をはじめ、釉薬を用いた器、飯碗、徳利、ポットなど幅広い作品をご紹介いたします。どうぞご高覧くださいませ。

We are pleased to present an exhibition of ceramics by Shigeyoshi Morioka, who works with wood-fired kilns in Amano, Wakayama Prefecture. Morioka has worked from his kiln in the rich natural surroundings of Amano, at the foot of Mount Kōya, for many years. His encounter with Nanban Yakishime on Tanegashima Island led him to visit kiln sites throughout Korea and Southeast Asia, where he studied the ceramic traditions rooted in each region while developing his own practice. From gathering clay and glaze materials to chopping firewood and tending the kiln for nearly ten days, Morioka carries out every stage of the process himself. Alongside the powerful forms of his unglazed, wood-fired works, his glazed pieces also reveal rich and varied surfaces born from his engagement with clay and flame. This exhibition features Nanban Yakishime made with clay from a southern island, as well as glazed works, rice bowls, sake flasks, teapots, and other everyday vessels.
